About Me

NewLogo_Nov2020(NoText).png

In 2016, I graduated from College of the Ozarks with a bachelors in Graphic Design and a bachelors in Musical Theatre, and in 2021, earned my bachelors in Animation from Regent University.

My dream is to work for a studio creating animated television series, films, or video games. I have such a passion for entertaining, and this industry provides an invaluable service.

During the course of my education, I have honed soft skills such as: written and verbal communication, time-management, organization, initiative, handling multiple projects well, taking direction, being part of a team, thinking critically and creatively, and working independently.

I am also familiar with Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Lightroom, Audition,  Maya, and Storyboard Pro. Further, I have experience using both Mac OS from X to 10.5 (Catalina) and Windows from XP/2000 to 10.

I recently had the honour of working as an intern with WHRO Public Media in Norfolk, Virginia. I did some background character design, simple animations, and prop designs for one of their GreenBeats animated shorts, as well as the award-winning short, Be Like the Robots. I also worked with two other students to complete an animatic for the pilot of an animated series they are producing.

Additionally, I do freelance commissions on the side, so feel free to contact me using the information on the "Contact" page at the top!

Now just some fun facts about me:

  • I own three ferrets named Lottie, Alice, and Raoul.

  • I have been to Japan, Vietnam, England, France, most of the United States, and I want to see much more as well.

  • I love video games. My favourite ones include: Fallout, Portal, Harvest Moon, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Left 4 Dead, and Stardew Valley. I am currently playing Phasmophobia, Overwatch, DayZ, Dead Matter, and Neverwinter with my family.

Why Create Art?

About Me: Text

I Create Art to Grieve

Art can be either surface level, or it can go beneath the surface. Like certain diseases, one does not immediately see the impact it can have on the mind and on the soul. The artwork I had created for my 2016 undergraduate exhibition focused on my then 18 year-old brother, Jack, who was diagnosed when he was 15 with an autoimmune disease called Wegener's Granulomatosis, or Granulomatosis with Polyangitis. His disease is incurable, and he struggles every day to do the simplest tasks.

The piece to the right is called Diagnosis, and it is a portrait of Jack, digitally composited, made completely out of text describing his disease. At close inspection, the text appears to be made of individual values, but when the viewer steps back, the different values become the contours of my brother's face.

I Create Art to Search for Meaning

I use photography and the computer as my primary medium. My work is incredibly personal, but by being open and vulnerable with the viewer, I hope to invite them to connect with my story and with my brother.

I draw inspiration from Impressionism and how its artists never give all the details, leaving the viewer's brain to finish the forms on its own. I love when a piece reveals more of itself to the viewer each time they look at it, so that it hits the viewer in waves. This also gives the viewer a chance to find his or her own meaning in the work. I love how the Houses of Parliament paintings by Claude Monet (to the left) blend light, form, and space seamlessly. When I look at an Impressionist piece closely, I revel in the individual color pigments, but when I step back from the work, the entire image comes into view; a whole made from a community of disparate strokes.

I Create Art to Cope

Watching my brother battle for his life has wreaked havoc on my family, but these painful moments in life can be just as beautiful as the good moments. Even though pain can vary greatly between people and situations, it is something everyone can relate to and it unites us as humans. We have been given the amazing gift of expression, and we can share our pain and turn it into beautiful works of art that move and inspire others.

"Well yeah, and I'm sad. But at the same time I'm really happy that something can make me feel that sad. It's like...it makes me feel alive, you know? It makes me feel human. The only way I can feel this sad now is if I felt something really good before. So I have to take the bad with the good. So I guess what I'm feeling is like a beautiful sadness."
